The prostate gland is the gland located in the lower abdomen, just beneath your pubic bone. The prostate gland produces a fluid that surrounds a testicles and other female reproductive organs. As it is made of tissue called the prostate, the prostate is not the only gland that produces prostate fluid. The prostate is the main gland for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It also acts as an important part of the female reproductive system, in that it is where sperm and eggs are produced and stored. Prostate cancer is a serious disease and is very often fatal. This is especially true if the disease is detected in early. The prostate gland can be removed for certain types of cancers or treated in the same way as other cancers. If the patient has a serious disease, the treatment needs to be different from that used in other cancers. It may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and medicines. Most of these treatments are used to treat cancer of the breast or the cervix. However, in rare cases, the patient may need a procedure to remove the prostate. Prostate cancer is often treated by removing the prostate, but is rarely removed by surgery.
